Philippines Celebrate 22nd Philippine Eagle Week

The country will celebrate the 22nd Philippine Eagle Week (PEW) from June 4 – 10, 2020 with the theme “Pangangalaga ng Buhay-Ilang at Kagubatan, Kalusugan ng Mamamayan”. Through this observance, the ecological importance and social significance of the Philippine eagle is celebrated.

One of the major activities lined-up for this year’s event is the Art Contest open for incoming grades 10-12 students. The contest will feature artworks that revolves around this years PEW theme. Three (3) winners will be selected to be announced on June 15, 2020.

Update: A total of 146 qualified entries were received nationwide. Winners will be announce today June 15, 2020.

Webinars will also be conducted on June 9, 2020 as part of the celebration. Experts will be the resource speakers for the following webinar topics:

  1. Emerging infectious diseases from wildlife in the Philippines and the role of conservation in their prevention;
  2. Common Raptor Diseases, specfically encountered in Philippine Eagles and other Philippine raptors;
  3. Philippine Eagle conservation during the Pandemic

Proclamation No. 79 s, 1999 was signed into law declaring June 4-10 of every year as the Philippine Eagle Week (PEW) to convey and highlight the ecological importance and social significance of the Philippine Eagle.
