Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) Species

EDGE stands for Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered. EDGE species are unique in many ways and are threatened to extinction. If they are gone there will be nothing like them left on earth. The Philippines is home to 29 EDGE Coral Reef species. Three of them studied by the Haribon Foundation: Mushroom coral (Heliofungia actiniformis), Pearl Bubble coral (Physogyra lichtensteini), and Elegance coral (Catalaphylia jardinei).
