Cave Biota

Philippine caves are home to the following species:

Troglobites – are underground animals that spend their whole life in caves and cannot survive outside.

Troglophiles – Animals that are found in caves only during certain stages of their life cycles such as roosting, reproduction and nursing the young.

Trogloxenes – are cave organisms that spend only part of their life cycle inside the cave but frequents the surface for food.
