3 New Legislations for Protected Areas

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed into law last July 9, 2025 three legislations declaring parcels of land in Guimaras, Quezon and Albay provinces as protected areas under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS).

RA 12225, declares the protected area in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras in Region 6 previously categorized as initial component of NIPAS will now be classified as national park to be known as Taklong and Tandog Group of Islands Natural Park.

RA 12226, declares declares the Alibijaban Wilderness Area in San Andres, Quezon, also an initial component of NIPAS as a protected area under the category of protected landscape and seascape, to be referred to as the Alibijaban Protected Landscape and Seascape.

RA 12227, declares the protected area in Polangui and Oas municipalities, as well as Ligao and Tabaco cities in Albay province in Region 5, to be referred to as the Mt. Masaraga Protected Landscape.

 

The declaration of these new Protected Areas will ensure the conservation, protection, management, and rehabilitation of the area through cooperation and consolidated effort among the national government, local government units (LGUs), concerned non-governmental organizations (NGOs) private entities, and local communities,” as stated by these new laws .
