Biodiversity Hotspot

Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs)

As of 2025, there are 315 recognized Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), up from previous 228 official count.

KBAs are biodiversity rich sites with ecological importance, often determined to host threatened species, a center of endemism, or critically ecological corridors and other areas.

These provinces with large KBAs are also identified to be “biodiversity hotspots”, areas with high threats or drivers of biodiversity loss, climate change effect, habitat loss and fragmentation, invasive alien species, overexploitation, over harvesting and pollution.
